Tour des Chutes 2010 – Celebrate Life!

Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, riders, family and friends for making the 6th annual Tour des Chutes another successful day to “Celebrate Life”! Over 1000 riders took to the roads of Central Oregon riding routes from 7 to 90 miles and raised close to $80,000 to support cancer survivorship programs at St. Charles Medical Center in Central Oregon and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  Not only a successful fundraiser, but the Tour des Chutes is “green” too!  Committed to reducing our footprint, the Tour des Chutes eliminated water  bottles, used only compostable paper plates, cups and silverware. We thank our partners in this effort: The Environmental Center, Cascade Couriers, and Cascade Disposal.

Our total trash count?

  • (4) 96 Gallon Bins of Compost
  • (1 1/2) 96 Gallon Bins to Recycle
  • (4) Tubs Compostable Food Waste

And, for over 1000 people….only

  • (3) 32 Gallon Bins of Trash to the Landfill!!!

The Tour des Chutes was proud to have our first Grand Marshall this year, Michael McDaniel. Diagnosed with brain cancer five years ago, Michael trained so that he could participate in his first Tour des Chutes – Congratulations Michael McDaniel!

Ride for yourself. Ride for someone you love.

Greetings all -
I want to start by again thanking each rider, sponsors, and volunteers in the 2009 Tour des Chutes. We had record number of riders (1000) and a record amount of money raised ($87,000). This is a great accomplishment from people who care about cancer survivorship and research. We are under way with the planning for the 2010 Tour des Chutes, and even working on some fantastic ideas for 2011. Expect the great entertainment, vendor village and delicious burrito bar as last year.

We were very pleased by the money sent to our beneficiaries, Lance Armstrong Foundation and St. Charles Medical Center. Please check out what our beneficiaries have been up to. We are especially pleased with the Young Adult Survivor Network at St. Charles Cancer Center. Working closely with the survivorship program at St. Charles is Lizzy Katz and Marlys Johnson, look closely for more from these two dynamos.
Spring is on it’s way and then the next thing you know it is July 17th. Get ready to dust off that bike and get out and ride.
Livestrong and take care, Gary Bonacker    Founder Tour des Chutes
